16th Century Fountain Mask Sculpture
Unique and
precious sculpture in carved white marble, likely depicting Aeolus, the god of
the wind. The sculpture originated as a fountain mask, as evidenced by the
opening in the mouth for the water to flow out. The back is smoother, while the
front features well-defined eyes and nose; the eyebrows take the form of
playful wings, and the head is completed with a lily in the center of the
forehead, further enhancing the decoration. Originating from a Florentine
residence, this sculpture is an object of great antiquity and taste, capable of
enriching any space with a touch of history and elegance. Classically inspired
Tuscan craftsmanship, 16th century.
