A fine piece from the Rhône Valley, dating from the 18th century, Louis XV period.
The walnut has a lovely color and a beautiful, warm, blond patina.
There has been virtually no restoration, just a small repair to the edge of the upper left drawer; otherwise, this commode has undergone no restoration whatsoever, even the rear feet are original.
The bronze mounts were probably replaced in the 19th century, as traces of earlier work are visible on the drawer fronts.
The current drawer pulls are gadrooned bronze, a classic design perfectly suited to the lines of this commode.
The top has a curved edge; it is worth noting that it is made of only two large walnut planks, a testament to its quality.
The uprights are carved from a single piece of wood and decorated with a gendarme's hat motif. The sides are Louis XV style with curved edges and cabriole feet with hooves.
The lower rail is hemmed, and the beautiful double-crown design runs the entire length of the front.
The drawer interiors and back are made of Original fir wood typical of the Rhône Valley.
The drawers slide perfectly, the runners having been serviced.
Original wrought iron locks and keys function perfectly.
A preventative treatment with xylophene was carried out in the workshop, but no woodworm infestation has been detected!
Superb waxed patina on the light-veined walnut.
A double-fronted chest of drawers in perfect condition, a timeless classic.
