"Silver Hors D’oeuvre / Dessert Serving Set, Swan, Caduceus, Napoleon , 19th Century France"
Antique Silver Hors d’Oeuvre / Dessert Serving Set – Minerva Hallmark
Neo-Classical / Empire Style with Swan & Caduceus Motifs 19th-Century French Silversmithing

An elegant solid silver serving set (Minerva 1st Standard hallmark, .950 purity), composed of four pieces featuring handles finely chased with rare Neo-Classical decoration: swans, scrollwork, laurel leaves, and the caduceus (two coiled snakes). The ornamental vocabulary is of great finesse, evoking the revival of the Empire style during the Second Empire and the Belle Époque.

The set includes:

• A serving knife (for fish or cheese) with a blade engraved with laurel motifs.
• A pierced sugar sifter spoon (saupoudreuse) for sugar or pastries.
• A pierced sardine server/scoop with a delicately raised edge.
• A three-tined serving fork.

The silversmith is unidentified (no maker's mark). The period presentation box, lined in satin, bears the mark of the retailer Blisson & Langlois, Marseille. These are attractive pieces, notable for the balance of their lines and the richness of the handles; an uncommon pattern that will make a statement on a refined table or within a collection of serving flatware.
