"This bracelet is part of the ornamental tradition of the Fulani people of the central Sahel. Worn on the wrist, it could also be attached to the hair as a headdress ornament and used as a counterweight to stabilize the hairstyle, a practice attested among Songhai women integrated into Fulani cultural circles. It also served as currency in matrimonial transactions, where this type of bracelet could be included in the dowry and facilitate the acquisition of goods or services related to the alliance."
