"Wedjat Eye Amulet – Ancient Egypt, Late Period (circa 664 – 332 Bc)"
Wedjat Eye Amulet – Ancient Egypt, Late Period. Rare amulet in the shape of a Wedjat Eye, a major protective emblem of ancient Egypt. Seen horizontally, it presents the complete shape of the Eye of Horus, with a brow arch, an extended line, and a lower curve evoking the ritual tear. Seen vertically, the overall silhouette evokes a stylized profile of the god Anubis, identifiable by his jackal's head. This dual iconographic interpretation gives the object a unique symbolic richness. Carved and polished black obsidian (chip on the upper end and another on the lateral end; vitreous luster indicating a stone of volcanic origin, like obsidian) Egypt, Late Period (circa 664 – 332 BC) 1.9 × 1.9 cm Provenance: Former collection of Madame S., Paris, after inheritance, constituted in the first half of the 20th century.
