Hlf Duluard (1871-1953) "the Writer", Gentleman At His Writing Table, Oil On Panel
Artist: Hippolyte Leon François Duluard
Magnificent painting (oil on panel) signed Hippolyte Leon François Duluard, depicting a Renaissance writer or gentleman at his writing desk. Hippolyte Leon François Duluard (1871-1953) was a French painter, watercolorist, and engraver who exhibited both in Paris and abroad, most often known for his marvelous depictions of musketeers. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels since 1935. He was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904), the official painter of the late 19th century and one of the leading figures of academic painting during the Second Empire. Gérôme enjoyed tremendous renown during his lifetime, a reputation that continues to this day and has even inspired films. A very beautiful portrait with rich, vibrant colors. The subject, lost in thought, seems to be searching for inspiration... The artist's signature is in the lower left corner. This painting is presented in a magnificent, richly molded, keyed frame of wood and gilt stucco, with the original gilding still clearly visible around its entire perimeter. A few tiny, old losses of stucco have been repaired. A very beautiful and well-matched ensemble. Dimensions of the panel alone, without frame: 41cm x 33cm
