This magnificent painting, depicting a noblewoman, is an exceptional work executed around 1580 by a talented follower of Titian. The technical quality of the work is remarkable, particularly in the meticulous attention to detail of the sumptuous gown: from the delicate transparency of the veiled lace bodice to the subtle interplay of textures in the split sleeves, where light glides across the silk with striking realism. This portrait embodies the essential characteristics of Venetian portraiture, a tradition that revolutionized the representation of the human psyche. This work reveals the historical evolution of the school: from the hieratic style and linear precision of the Bellinis, through the lyrical atmosphere and psychological sfumato of Giorgione's poetic figures, to the apogee of the mature Titian.
