James Gillray (1756–1815) Original Etching – Hannah Humphrey, London, 1793
Artist: James Gillray
Superb and rare original etching by James Gillray, published on March 30, 1793, by Hannah Humphrey, 18 Old Bond Street, the caricaturist's longtime publisher. The print depicts General Charles-François Dumouriez, satirized for his betrayal of revolutionary France. Gillray portrays him grotesquely, surrounded by pseudo-patriots, in a burlesque banquet scene emblematic of British anti-Jacobin propaganda. A very fine impression, on period laid paper, with intact captions: "Js. Gy. desᵗ et fect pro bono publico – Pubᵈ March 30ᵗʰ 1793 by H. Humphrey". Clean etching, without losses, carefully framed. Referenced in the British Museum (BM Satires 8286). Dimensions: 51 × 41 cm framed. For shipping, please contact me, thank you.
