Ferdinand Levillain (Paris, 1837-Paris, 1905) was a French engraver and medalist. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1861 to 1903. From 1871 onwards, he gained renown through his association with the bronze sculptor Ferdinand Barbedienne; in their joint stand, they displayed lamps, bowls, and amphorae created in a Neo-Greek style. This collaboration between Levillain and Barbedienne lasted from 1871 to 1878. He received a gold medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition for his works in the antique style. Under the Second Empire, this style, variously described as Neo-Greek, Neo-Pompeian, or even Estruco-Greek, manifested itself primarily in the fields of porcelain and metalwork, particularly in bronze furniture. An artist like Ferdinand Levillain remained passionate about classical antiquity throughout his life.
