Set Of Eight Deep Dishes, Shell-shaped Handles, "white Metal," Early 20th Century
Eight round, hollow, concentric platters in six different sizes, the two smallest being duplicates.
The handles on the upper rims of each platter feature a raised shell motif.
They are in good condition with minor scratches from use and are over 100 years old, having been made around 1925.
Maximum lengths: 30, 26, 23, 21, 17, 15 cm.
Respective diameters: 23, 20, 18, 16, 13, 10 cm.
Respective heights: 7, 6, 5, 4.5, 4 cm.
The six different sizes are due to the two smallest being duplicates.
Alfenide, also called "white metal," is a metallic alloy imitating silver, popularized by the Halphen brothers in 1850. This name is derived from the inventors, Charles Halphen & Frères, French chemists and goldsmiths of the 19th century.
