Pair Of Giltwood Drops, Early 18th Century
Pair of carved and gilded wooden swags decorated with cherub heads, flowers, and sunflowers executed in high relief. The sunflower, a symbol of the sun, is a characteristic element of the Louis XIV period, the reign of the Sun King. One swag has a minor chip in the lower part of the carving. The original gilding has numerous chips, and some remaining gilding is fragile. Period: late 17th - early 18th century. The swags are a good size: 71 cm and 74 cm high.
