"J. Forest Terrestrial Globe – Circa 1900 – Large Model On A Sculpted Cast Iron Base"
A superb terrestrial globe published by J. Forest and the geographers-publishers Girard & Barrère in Paris, circa 1900–1914. This is a large model (32 cm in diameter), resting on an elegant, richly ornamented cast-iron base, decorated with mascarons and claw feet, in a Neo-Renaissance style. The cartography, typical of the Belle Époque, depicts ocean currents, major shipping routes, and a very precise nomenclature. The globe is printed on lithographed paper, with a beautiful original patina. The cast-iron base, much rarer than models on wooden columns, gives this piece a truly striking decorative presence.
