"Set Of Two 19th Century Etchings – Marine Scenes, Signed Eby And Engraved By Berthelemy"
A set of two antique engravings depicting maritime scenes: one of Sardine Fishing, the other illustrating boats stranded on a beach. Both plates bear the monogram EBY, probably that of a 19th-century artist. One of the engravings is also signed Berthelemy sculp. Printed in Paris by Delâtre, a famous printer from rue Saint-Jacques, active in the 19th century and known for his collaboration with artists of the Barbizon school. The engravings are printed on watermarked laid paper from Papeteries d'Annonay, a guarantee of quality and an old print. Note: although the monogram EBY corresponds to that of Kerr Eby (1889–1946), this cannot be the artist here, as the engravings predate his period of activity. The exact attribution remains to be identified.
