Mandalay Buddha, Burma, Gilded Wood, 19th-20th Century
Sculpture of Shakyamuni Buddha made in the Mandalay style from polychrome, gilded, and inlaid wood. Buddha is depicted in the lotus position, his hands making the Bhumisparsha gesture, calling the earth to witness. The rich robe is adorned with inlaid colored glass decorations.
