ANCIENT PEWTER COLLECTION

Beautiful covered pewter bowl.

The shape of the body is characteristic of pewter produced in Basel, Switzerland, during second half of 18th century (please check documentation to compare on last photos for a similar piece), with:
* openwork and zoomorphic handles (busts of grotesques or caryatids), in a curving shape typical of the Louis XV period,
* a bowl supported by 3 feet with scallop shell motifs, again characteristic of the mid-18th century,
* a flat lid topped with 3 finials shaped like acorns or vegetative motifs

Repetition of 3 juxtaposed stamps under the lid and 3 more under the bottom of the bowl: a round reserve of a standing angel holding a sword or glaive in its left hand and the initials I D, pewter master potter to be identified?

A unity is created between the bowl and its lid by a wavy decoration delimiting flutes on the bodies of both parts

Approximately 23 cm in diameter including the handles (and 15cm without)
* and 10cm high
