Oil on canvas, "Two mackerel head to tail, ready to be cooked," signed upper right, Gernez. French School. 54 x 65 cm. Paul-Elie Gernez (1888-1948) studied at the Academies of Valenciennes, his hometown. He went to Paris in 1908 and made short stays there until 1911, when he settled in Honfleur and became friends with Félix Vallotton (1865-1925). He participated in the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries. The Musée National d'Art Moderne owns, among other works, a "Still Life with Fish." Several national and international museums hold his works. Modern gilt wood and stucco frame. Good condition. 1800 euros
