Founded in 1735 in Moselle, the Niderviller earthenware factory became known from its inception for its production of fine pottery, as well as for its figurines, tableware, and polychrome porcelain art objects. During the 19th century, it also turned to the production of utilitarian tableware in feldspathic earthenware, for which it received an award at the 1855 Universal Exhibition. After expansion during the 20th century, which saw the creation of several subsidiaries, the company gradually declined. Today, many pieces created by the Niderviller pottery factory are exhibited in French museums (Louvre Museum, Museum of Decorative Arts, Lorraine Museum in Nancy, etc.) and international museums (Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Kensington Museum in London, etc.).
