Blue And White Porcelain Dish. China, 18th Century. Qianlong.
Artist: Jingdezhen
A Chinese porcelain dish decorated with a lakeside landscape painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The rim is decorated with flowers and fruit drawn with the utmost care. Although this dish was certainly intended for export, its quality is unusual; indeed, Chinese export porcelains are of mediocre quality with sloppy designs, especially in blue and white. Here, exceptionally, the quality is on par with that found in imperial porcelain: perfect firing, a deep and even blue, a flawless glaze, and meticulous designs. It must have been a special commission for a discerning and demanding European collector. Chinese work from the late 18th century. Diameter: 227 mm. Star-shaped crack.
