Object description :

"Oxen To The Cart"
Oxen pulling a cart, mid-19th century. The ceramic is impressively realistic. The depiction has a strong connotation. It represents working the land and the living conditions. The cart is the emblem of movement, both in commerce and agriculture: they live by it. This type of decoration is often associated with family: it represents wealth. Even the base is carefully crafted and finished. The uniform cream tone is representative of the artistry of the material. It is often depicted in paintings but rarely in sculpture or in the round, and even less so in ceramics. A rare piece, especially for this period. Delivery possible, but not included in the price.
