Student of Marius Reynaud, in Aix and Gaucherel, in Paris. Ranked among the good reproductive engravers with some plates after Corot. He was to make his reputation as an engraver of views of Paris, Marseille, Scotland, Venice. In addition to being a recognized street engraver, Lucien Marcelin Gautier was an illustrator for the magazine l'Art from 1881 to 1886. During this period, he exhibited his etching works at the Salon des Artistes français in Paris from 1880 to 1925.
