Charles Ramos, born in 1925 in Algeria into a family of cabinetmakers, is a self-taught French designer and interior architect. After a brief training at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers, he joined the army for six years, notably with the Free French Forces in London during the Second World War. Back in Paris, he retrained in design and, in 1950, at only 25 years old, opened his own decoration agency in partnership with Mr. Castellanetta, who would become his main publisher.
In 1952, Charles Ramos exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and began a fruitful collaboration with the interior designer Louis Baillon. Together, they participated in several prestigious trade shows, such as the Salon des Arts Ménagers. After their separation, Ramos became more involved in reconstruction projects in Normandy, notably by designing hotels and discovering the field of community design. Coming from a family of carpenters, his approach to design is marked by a great mastery of materials and a constant search for elegance and functionality. His creations, often minimalist and refined, are distinguished by their comfort and formal audacity. Charles Ramos remains today a major figure in mid-20th-century French design, recognized for his artisanal heritage and innovative spirit.
