Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille and later in Paris in Henri Bouchard’s studio, Louis Arnaud participated in major postwar public commissions. A regular collaborator with architect Fernand Pouillon, he created, notably, monumental sculptures for the Sablettes housing complex and the 200-unit housing project in Aix-en-Provence, as well as for Diar el Mahçoul in Algiers. In 1959, he also created History and Music, two monumental bronze sculptures commissioned under the 1% Art Program for the high school in Nîmes.
Dated 1960, this wooden head reflects his evolution toward a more minimalist style of sculpture, in which the face is reduced to a few lines and the power of volume.
