Decorative marquetry panel depicting a hunting scene, of Italian manufacture, probably from Piedmont or Lombardy, dating from the first half of the 19th century.
This finely executed piece is entirely crafted in polychrome wood inlay on a light wood background, and depicts a lively hunting scene: five horsemen and two dogs chasing a wild boar through a hilly landscape with stylised trees and birds in flight. The rendering of the figures and the landscape, though stylised, demonstrates strong compositional skill and narrative sensibility.
The panel is set in an ebonised frame inlaid with bone floral and geometric motifs, typical of late Baroque decorative production in northern Italy. A particularly striking element is the central upper motif featuring a gilt ornament and sculpted applications in the shape of intertwined serpents—a rare and visually impactful detail.
All decorative elements are made of animal bone, and the piece comes with a professional expertise certifying its authenticity.
This work may have once been part of an important architectural furnishing or a representative piece of furniture, and is now ideally suited as a wall decoration.
Very good condition, with age-appropriate craquelure. The marquetry is well preserved, frame is intact, with some minor reinforcement work on the decorative crest.
