Lacquered Wood Console Table With Marble Top. Italy, Louis XV Period.

Louis XV Console Table in Carved and Lacquered Wood with Marble Top. Italy, mid-18th century.

Important Louis XV period console table, finely carved and lacquered in ivory and gilt tones, distinguished by its extraordinary ornamental richness and the elegant sculptural movement of its forms. The fully pierced and carved structure represents a refined example of the Italian Rocaille taste of the eighteenth century.

The shaped marble top, richly veined and brecciated in pink and hazelnut tones, follows harmoniously the undulating profile of the supporting structure, creating a sophisticated dialogue between stone and carved wood decoration.

The apron is enriched with an elaborate composition of scrolls, acanthus leaves, cartouches, and pierced vegetal motifs, executed with remarkable lightness and technical virtuosity. The slender, boldly curved legs terminate in leafy scroll feet and are joined by a shaped stretcher centered by a large shell motif, an emblematic element of the Rococo repertoire.

The ensemble fully embodies the search for movement, asymmetry, and decorative richness typical of the Louis XV style, while retaining the theatrical elegance that characterizes the finest productions of Northern Italy during the eighteenth century. Based on the quality of the carving, decorative taste, and overall design, the piece can be attributed to the Venetian area, particularly to the production of mid-eighteenth-century Venice.

Overall condition is very good, with minor imperfections to the lacquer consistent with age and, as visible in the photographs, a couple of small inserts in pietra paesina (landscape stone), probably replacing former losses in the marble top, which add a distinctive and unique character to the piece. Beautiful overall patina and remarkable decorative presence.
