Object description :

""annunciation", Oil On Canvas. Circle Of Cristofano Allori. Florence, Early 17th Century"

Large and refined oil painting on canvas depicting The Annunciation, executed with remarkable technical skill and dating to the first half of the 17th century. The work is clearly inspired by the famous 14th-century fresco housed in the Church of the Servants in Florence, a revered model that was widely reproduced from the 15th to the 17th century by various Florentine artists who reinterpreted the theme in line with their own stylistic and expressive sensibilities.

The painting stands out for the elegance of the faces and the delicacy of the hands, combined with a high pictorial quality that pervades the entire composition. A small red inscription, arranged over two lines, is visible on the surface, though it is difficult to decipher due to the passage of time.

The work is fully attributable to the circle of Cristofano Allori (Florence, 1577–1621), son of Alessandro Allori and a favored pupil of Bronzino. After the death of Bronzino and Vasari, Allori became one of the most esteemed painters at the Medici court. Artists from his circle — students, collaborators, and followers — adopted his refined style, characterized by a calibrated use of light and color, Caravaggesque influence in the modeling of volumes, sober yet expressive compositions, and meticulous attention to detail, especially in religious subjects.

Overall in good condition, consistent with its age, as documented in the photos. Minor wear and a small area of humidity on the back of the canvas are noted. Professional restoration available upon request.
