"the Israelites Receiving The Manna," Oil On Panel, Flanders, Late 16th Century.

Large oil painting on oak panel depicting Chapter 16 of Exodus, "The Israelites Receiving Manna."
Flanders, late 16th to early 17th century; dimensions: 1.19 m x 0.88 m.
“The whole congregation of the children of Israel set out from Elim, and they came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole assembly of the children of Israel grumbled in the wilderness against Moses and Aaron
3 ( ...... ) You have brought us into this wilderness to let this whole multitude die of hunger.
4. The Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain bread down for you from the heavens.”
Flemish School, likely from Antwerp? Like many painters from this city, the artist was strongly influenced here by the colors of the Venetians.
The antique frame was carved into the thickness of the molding to accommodate the panel, likely to prevent warping.
Various wooden reinforcements are placed perpendicular to the grain of the lower panel.
Dimensions including the frame.
