A man wearing blue trousers is leaning on the parapet of the bridge. The arches of the bridge are reflected in the water. Peaceful and poetic atmosphere. Signature lower right. Dimensions: 60 x 60 cm. Unframed. Handwritten inscription on the back, on the stretcher: "The guard tower (Chenonceau) René Genis"; "R. Genis.". René Génis was born in 1922 in Hue, Vietnam, and died on February 25, 2004 in Paris. After studying at the École d'Art appliqués de Bordeaux, he studied at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris with his teachers Albert Marquet and Jules Cavaillès. It was at this time that he met Guy Bardone, his companion. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon de la Jeune Peinture, for which he received a prize in 1960, and in galleries in New York, Tokyo, and Switzerland. His works can be seen at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Yamagata Museum in Tokyo, and the Musée de l'Abbaye, funded by the Guy Bardone-René Genis Foundation, located in Saint-Claude.
