Pol Chambost (1906-1983) Large Vase With Handle, Model 1016b, Circa 1955/60. Jouve, Gatard Mado Jolain
Artist: Pol Chambost (1906-1983)
SUPERB and quite rare large vase with bulbous handles, model No. 1016 B. Height: 33cm Unsigned but guaranteed 200% authentic, known model and referenced in the book by Philippe Chambost. "Pol Chambost - Sculptor-Ceramicist, 1906-1983" Somogy Editions d'Art - Paris 2006. Similar model in different tones reproduced on page 81. Very good condition, I just note a tiny hairline of 1cm, towards the neck, not crossing. The model that I am offering is also extremely rare due to its colors, I have not found any other known model to date, the exterior is covered by a superb white enamel speckled with black and the interior is covered by a moss green enamel tending towards anise green. Perhaps a unique piece, an attempt by Chambost....??I no longer present Pol Chambost, famous French ceramist of the period 1930/1970, especially known for his creations of the years 1950/1960, period where he competed with Jouve, Gatard or Mado Jolain. He will begin by working for Colette Guéden in the years 1930/40, then will found a workshop in Ivry towards the end of the 40s, very close to that of Jean Besnard, their productions will be quite similar at this period; then he begins to produce pieces with very modern shapes and colors. He collaborates with Jouve, Matégot, Roulot, Fouquet, Pouchol. He will then settle in the Périgord. Piece guaranteed authentic.
