"Six Used Okkas"
A fine set of OKKAS weights. There are six of them, including two dirhems. Clearly used and recalibrated from 1937 to 1953. This is evidenced by the traces of lead addition. The Turkish oka was an Ottoman unit of weight whose value varied over time but was standardized to approximately 1.2829 kilograms at the end of the Ottoman Empire. Today, in modern Turkey, the traditional unit is often called the eski okka ("old oka") or kara okka ("black oka"), while the yeni okka ("new oka") is the kilogram. Definition: The oka was an Ottoman unit of mass, equal to 400 dirhems (or Ottoman drachmas). In Turkey, the new unit of measurement is the kilogram, called the yeni okka. The old oka unit is still used in some contexts, but is referred to as the eski okka or kara okka. The value of the oka varied in different regions of the Ottoman Empire. For example, in Egypt it was around 1,235 and in Tripolitania around 1,221 kg. THANK YOU IA.
