Louvain 1771, Louis XVI Coffee Pot In Solid Silver, Goldsmith Charles Henri Rousseau
Artist: Charles Henri Joseph Rousseau (actif à Louvain 1754-1793)
Spectacular Louis XVI period tripod coffee pot in solid silver. Very large in size, it is abundantly decorated with everything that the Louis XVI decorative register could offer: garlands, laurel stems, etc. It still has its carved walnut handle. These feet are designed as consoles holding large bouquets of flowers. On the bottom are four very legible hallmarks, those of the city of Louvain for the vintage 1771 and the hallmark of master goldsmith Charles Henri Joseph Rousseau, active in Louvain since 1754 but born in Brussels. The archives tell us that he spent a few years of apprenticeship in Ath and London before settling in the university city. Its weight is impressive: 1240 grams.
