"Mons 1777, Chocolate Pot, Solid Silver, Louis XVI Period, Coffee Pot, Tripod Jug "
Majestic Louis XVI period chocolate pot in solid silver. It is distinguished from coffee pots of the same period by the presence of a removable fretel that can be unscrewed to allow a mixing stick or frother to protrude, which was used to stir the hot chocolate. In order to facilitate the installation of this frother, the pin of the lid hinge is equipped with a small handle to easily remove the lid. The entire chocolate pot with a fluted body is richly decorated with pearls, laurel garlands, acanthus leaves, etc. It still has its carved handle from the eighteenth century, which is quite rare. On the bottom of the jug, we can find the four usual hallmarks of the old regime: hallmarks of the city of Mons (tower and AE), vintage hallmark 77 for 1777 and a master goldsmith hallmark, unfortunately illegible. It weighs grams.
