Pair of Empire period iceboxes in white Paris porcelain enhanced with fine gold trim. Early 19th century, circa 1800–1810.
The iceboxes were designed to serve frozen desserts: crushed ice inside the vase kept the food cool in a lining, over which a lid was placed. Our iceboxes, large, shaped pieces that are very decorative, can also be used as a pair of large ornamental vases, on a chest of drawers or a dining room trolley.
The two linings (bowls) and one urn bear the signature of the Nast factory in Paris in iron red (Nast's signature has faded over time on the other urn). Established in Paris, the Nast factory was founded in 1784 and operated until 1830. It supplied French high society and several European courts.
The set is in excellent, near-new condition. Perfectly preserved gilding, no damage. Very rare in pairs and in this perfect condition.
Note: Our pieces are from a very large Nast porcelain service composed of numerous rare shaped pieces and plates, for sale on our website.
