"An Elegant Dandy's Moiré Silk Tartan Waistcoat - France Romantic Period Circa 1845"
Circa 1840-1845 France Vest of an elegant corseted silk tartan check dating from the end of the Louis-Philippe period. The cut with double-breasted buttoning, shawl collar enhancing the bust and slimmed waist corresponds perfectly to the ideals of the dandies of this refined period, very influenced by Victorian England. We naturally think of George Brummel or Barbey d'Aurevilly, or even the lost soul of a Chateaubriand. The textile, here, is very learned. It is of course inspired by the Victorian fashion of the Balmoral tartans of the young Queen Victoria. It is a navy moiré silk ottoman with fine red and green stripes, crossed in bayadère with gray mottled stripes! Double-breasted with eight original brass buttons set with black glass beads with a caviar effect! Back and lining in ecru chintzed cotton twill, with a tightening tab to adjust the size (dust on the back). The silk is very slightly worn at the folds at the bottom of the vest, the only major flaw to note. No stains or holes. Beautiful condition. Exceptional piece. Dimensions: Equivalent to men's size 48-50. Front height 53 cm, waist 83 cm buttoned vest, shoulders 40 cm, chest 96 cm.
