The medal depicts the French King Henry IV (1533-1610), his head turned to the left. This medallion is one of a series of busts of French sovereigns designed by Brachard between 1815 and 1820.
About the artist:
Jean-Charles Brachard (1766-1846) worked at the Manufacture de Sèvres between 1782 and 1824 and is best known for his creation of the Egyptian dinner service in 1806. This service was the result of a collaboration between Brachard and Dominique Vivant-Denon, author of the book Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Egypte pendant les campagnes du Général Bonaparte. It was presented by Napoleon to Tsar Alexander I of Russia in 1807.
