About the artist: Maurice Borrel (1804-1882) was a pupil of the French engraver Jacques-Jean Barre and was best known for his depictions of King Louis-Philippe and various members of the House of Orléans. At the age of twenty-seven, he was commissioned by Prince Honoré V of Monaco to design a commemorative medal. His best work was produced between 1840 and 1860.
