Rare 18th-century English satirical print entitled “The Female Bruisers,” drawn by the London painter John Collett (1725-1780) and engraved by John Goldar. This street scene, in the spirit of Hogarth, shows two working-class women violently clashing under the amused or worried gaze of passers-by—a vivid reflection of working-class London in the 1760s. Collett’s works are sought after for their social observation. The original painting by John Collett that served as a model for this engraving was sold at Christie’s London, sale of 7 June 2001 (lot 120). Note: mounted on cardboard
