"Large Napoleon III Period Jardiniere In Marquetry And Gilded Bronze – 19th Century"
Elegant planter from the Napoleon III period (circa 1860-1880), of eventful form, made of precious wood and decorated with a rich marquetry of light wood and rosewood with geometric and floral motifs, centered with a medallion adorned with a bouquet of flowers inlaid and enhanced with mother-of-pearl. The sides are decorated with gilt bronzes representing female figures in terms, as well as openwork handles. The border is underlined by an openwork gallery in gilt bronze as well as a double row of gilt bronze pearls and it rests on four turned feet decorated with gadroons. The interior is lined with its original removable zinc tray, patinated by time. A fine example of the refinement of Second Empire furniture, combining the taste for precious woods, contrasting marquetry and chiseled bronze ornamentation.
