Pewter bowl with console ears decorated in relief with a goose spread out on a pedestal, its flat-topped lid is decorated with a frieze of six C-shaped motifs arranged in opposition two by two, surrounded by a peripheral frieze of rows of dots. The handle features a mushroom.
Ownership mark engraved on both elements: IBT
Maker's mark attributed by TARDY to a LANGLOIS: chevron topped with two stars above a goose (phonetically angle/oie) / 1731 / FIN.
Length: 27.6 cm.
LIMOGES, Mid-18th century
Extremely rare provenance noted for the second time in almost fifty years, in very good condition, scratches and a small oxidized depressed area are however noted on one of the ears, visible on one of the photos. The flat roof model born during the second half of the 17th century was adopted by most French production centers with ornamental variants and produced until the mid-18th century. The bowl presented here is clearly inspired by decorative motifs from Toulouse and Bordeaux.
