Italian Baroque Giltwood Oval Frame, 17th Century
Dimensions: 67 × 53 cm | Depth: 6.5 cm
A fine and authentic 17th-century Italian Baroque carved and gilded wooden frame. The oval form is richly decorated with bold foliate scrolls on the outer border, intricately pierced to create depth and lightness, while the inner band features a continuous garland of fruit and flowers — a classic Baroque motif symbolizing abundance and vitality.
The surface retains its original gilding with a warm, aged patina. Expected wear, minor cracks, and surface losses are consistent with age, adding character and authenticity. The reverse shows the original wooden construction with an early iron hanging hook.
This frame was most likely intended for a portrait or devotional painting, though it could also be fitted with a mirror. A beautiful decorative object and a fine example of Italian Baroque craftsmanship.
Condition: Good antique condition, structurally sound. Surface wear, cracks, and old repairs consistent with 17th-century age.
