18th-century Blackened Wood Frame With An Inverted Profile – 69.5 × 57 Cm
Antique frame with an inverted profile, made of molded and blackened wood, likely dating from the 18th century.
The frame features a characteristic architectural composition, organized around a succession of deep moldings, projections, and rectangular recesses that give rhythm to the four sides. The inner border is highlighted by a fine decorative molding, accentuating the depth of the rebate.
The structure is made of solid wood joined with mitered cuts. The back retains an antique appearance and a traditional construction consistent with the proposed period.
The black finish appears to have been restored or repainted in the old style, revealing irregularities, wear, and surface variations in places that contribute to the frame’s character.
A beautiful decorative frame, particularly well-suited for an antique painting, an oil on copper, or a portrait from the 17th–18th centuries.
Shows signs of use, with wear, minor scuffs, and visible touch-ups to the finish, consistent with its age.
