Antique Louis XV-style Bordeaux Cabaret Table In Carved Solid Mahogany – 18th Century
An elegant cabaret table made of solid mahogany, from the Louis XV period, 18th century, likely from a furniture workshop in the port of Bordeaux.
This table features a rectangular top with rounded corners, slightly concave, accented by a raised, molded border—a characteristic feature of so-called “cabaret” tables, which were used primarily for serving tea, coffee, or hot chocolate in the 18th century.
It features a wide, belt-style drawer at the front, fitted with a pull knob, and displays on all four sides scalloped crossbars richly carved with foliage motifs, scrollwork, and floral compositions.
It rests on four elegant, arched legs, adorned at the top with carved acanthus leaves and finished with spiral scrolls.
The carving, present on all sides, along with the harmonious proportions and the quality of the mahogany, attest to the care taken in crafting this piece of furniture.
The traditional construction of the drawer, featuring dovetail joints, and the use of antique secondary wood are also noteworthy.
This table retains a pleasant antique patina, highlighting the warm tones of the solid mahogany.
