"Pair Of Processional Staff Tops – Virgin And Child – 18th Century"
A rare pair of carved and gilded wooden processional staff tops, dating from the 18th century. Each element takes the form of an openwork cage, containing a statuette of the Virgin and Child. The top part is decorated with fleur-de-lis, a royal symbol. These staff tops were originally attached to long poles and carried during religious processions. They now rest on later bases (one firmly attached, the other removable), allowing them to be displayed as independent sculptures.
