Transition period circa 1775.
New seat, upholstered in Damas fabric from the house of Lelièvre. Excellent condition, both in terms of the tapestry and the woodwork and the lacquer. Attributed to Claude Chevigny (received master in 1768) - trace of stamp under the crosspiece.
It is always difficult to attribute a seat but here we had a trace of stamp which forced us to look ... The strongly curved, fluted and rudentée armrest consoles supporting the armrests which are attached to the backrest in cabriolet are typical of the work of Claude Chevigny. Likewise, the lively belt and the connecting dice decorated with rosettes are characteristic of this great seat joiner. It is a good example of a Transition seat with its very enveloping rounded backrest, still Louis XV, and its seat, which is already Louis XVI with its fluted, rudenté legs. Very balanced construction and nobility of proportions are characteristic of Claude Chevigny.
