Imposing bronze depicting Sarpedon, hero of Greek mythology, represented bending his bow with his quiver at his feet, emphasizing his role as a warrior. In ancient traditions, Sarpedon is sometimes the son of Zeus and Europa, sometimes the son of Zeus and Laodomia, a version taken up by Homer in the Iliad, king of Lycia. He took part in the Trojan War where he perished under the blows of Partocle. On the base is engraved the dedication: To Mr. Professor Feillé.
