Bronze proof with medal patina representing Euterpe, muse of music represented holding a flute in each hand forming the instrument called Aulos in ancient Greece. Marked F.BARBEDIENNE Fondeur on the base. stamp "Mechanical reduction A. COLLAS" After a bronze by Pierre Maximilien DELAFONTAINE (1777-1860) exhibited at the Louvre Museum.
History of the work Cast iron commissioned by the Ministry of the Household of the King in 1828, after the marble Aphrodite from the Borghese collection (currently in the Louvre, department of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities, Ma 420), and restored in Euterpe in the 17th century century. Placed on the staircase of the Charles X museum at the Louvre.
