Savona or Albisola, late 18th – 19th century
Hand-painted maiolica plates with a distinctive lobed shape, decorated with a lively playing cards motif (swords, cups, coins, royal figures). The designs are outlined in bold black lines and filled with glazes in yellow, green, blue and orange, typical of the Ligurian folk ceramic tradition. On the reverse, a painted anchor mark appears, a symbol frequently used by the workshops of Savona and Albisola.
A rare and playful example of maiolica with a gaming theme, reflecting the creativity and imagination of Ligurian ceramic production.
