Eugène Victor Bourgeois was born in Paris on June 5, 1855 and died in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo on June 5, 1909.
French painter, illustrator and poster artist, self-taught, Eugène Bourgeois began at the Salon of 1874. He exhibited there in 1880, as well as at the Salon of French Artists of 1881 where he received a medal of honor that year, then a 3rd class medal in 1885. He also received the bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and that of 1900. He was one of the painters who exhibited outside the competition at the Salon des Artistes Français. His painting is appreciated for its touches of light colors. He painted landscapes in Normandy, Brittany, Île-de-France, Pyrenees, Camargue, Italy, as well as in North Africa. Eugène Bourgeois illustrated Les Sites de France, landscape postcards organized in series.
