Artist: Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778)
Giovanni Battista PIRANESI (Mogliano Veneto 1720 † 1778 Venice)
Veduta degli avanzi de mausolei e delle fabbriche sepolcrali sparse per la via appia
Plate from Antichita Romane (Wilton - Ely no. 428).
Original etching.
Signed lower right in the plate.
Roman print on laid paper with the fleur-de-lis watermark in a double circle (see photos).
A very fine impression with deep blacks despite damaged paper: some foxing, the usual vertical center crease, reinforced margins on the back, and traces of restoration for an old small tear on the right. Stains in the four corners of the print and some slight creases around the central fold. Small margins.
"Succesion Gheldolf" collector's stamp (Lugt L.1080) bearing the number 275 in inkpen in the lower right corner.
Dimensions: 61.5 x 38.5 cm
