Francesco Villamena, born in 1566 in Assisi and died on July 6, 1625 in Rome, was an Italian engraver renowned for his engravings reproducing famous works of art and genre scenes.
Trained by Cornelis Cort in Rome, he inspired—through his picturesque and popular style—renowned engravers such as Jacques Callot and Claude Mellan, who studied his works.
A few prints of this subject are held in collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Art, and the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace.
