"Lady's Secretary, Napoleon III Period"
A little history: The Second Empire style, also known as the Napoleon III style, was born in France under the leadership of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie. It enjoyed great success among the French bourgeoisie between the 1860s and 1880s. Emperor Napoleon III, wishing to surround himself with a lavish court, tried to reconnect with the splendor of the First Empire and to revive French industry through his commissions. The Second Empire style, designed with a taste for luxury and splendor, favored sumptuousness and polychromy.
